Kaitlin and Daniel's Tennessee Adventure

Unless you've been sleeping under a rock, I'm sure you have heard about the flooding in TN, KY, and MS this past weekend. Kaitlin and Daniel were in Memphis for a short visit. In between tornado warnings,they left on Saturday around noon to travel to Nashville for a wedding and then on to Bowling Green. Little did they know what was ahead of them-a 50 hour long adventure through Tennessee. They were turned back several times on the interstate and were unable to make it to Nashville, so they spent the night with Daniel's cousin on Saturday night and tried again on Sunday. They were turned back on the interstate again near Nashville and ended up staying in a less than 1 star motel in Dickson. Finally on Monday, they were able to get to Clarksville, even though it took them 3 hours to go 5 miles because of a washed out bridge. After getting through Clarksville, it was on to Bowling Green-they finally made it back there on Monday afternoon. Here are some pictures from their adventure.

Why Easter?

From "Love Lusters At Calvary"

Christ was all anguish that I might be all joy,
cast off that I might be brought in,
trodden down as an enemy that I might be welcomed as a friend,
surrendered to hell’s worst that I might attain heaven’s best,
stripped that I might be clothed,
wounded that I might be healed,
athirst that I might drink,
tormented that I might be comforted,
made a shame that I might inherit glory,
entered darkness that I might have eternal light.

My Saviour wept that all tears might be wiped from my eyes,
groaned that I might have endless song,
endured all pain that I might have unfading health,
bore a thorny crown that I might have a glory-diadem,
bowed his head that I might uplift mine,
experienced reproach that I might receive welcome,
closed his eyes in death that I might gaze on unclouded brightness,
expired that I might for ever live.

Matthew 28:1-6
Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.
But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
"He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

From "In Christ Alone" by Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow'r of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand.

Meredith is Engaged!

Friday night was an exciting night around the Christian home. Greyson Campbell proposed to Meredith Christian and now it is official. Bill and I have known for a while that it was going to happen but were waiting to get the word from Greyson. Bill and Greyson have had multiple conversations since Greyson asked for her hand on Labor Day weekend. When he called last Sunday night and said he would be here in an hour, we knew what was coming. Greyson showed us the ring and I started crying. It is beautiful and exactly what Meredith would have picked out for herself. He had been researching and looking for a ring since October, and he finally found the perfect one.
Greyson had a great plan to surprise Meredith, but needed all the details to work out perfectly. Meredith thought we were going out to eat for her birthday, but little did she know people were driving in from all over to witness this special event.

The timing was crucial. Kaitlin was the pointgirl in all of this and was able to get everyone there at the same time. It was horribly cold and rainy, which posed a problem for all the people waiting outside, but we were able to get them inside the garage without Meredith hearing anything. We were all waiting for her to find the special note Greyson had written to tell her that her present was outside. Meredith walked out, totally surprised, and the rest is history. In front of family and friends, Greyson got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, Meredith said "yes." Hugs and tears followed.  After everyone came inside to warm up, we went out to celebrate at Fuji Cafe, Meredith's favorite sushi place.

Bathroom Redo

Last spring I decided to update the almost 18 year old bathroom that the girls used.  It had really dated blue and peach paisley wallpaper with worn oak cabinets. You can see from the picture-Kaitlin don' kill me; it is the only before picture I could find. We finally completed the project this summer because of some problems I had with wallpaper removal and cabinet painting.

I am really pleased with the results. Of course, I couldn't do this alone. Bill was a huge help! He primed and painted the walls and trim, replaced the shower curtain and rod, put up new towel bars, shelves, and switch plates. He also removed the big wall mirror without even breaking it. I painted the cabinets,replaced hardware, put up some retro wall art, hung new mirrors, and replaced the light fixture. I can't believe it's the same room!

Christmas 2009

Christmas is a time filled with tradition for many families. A few traditions in the Christian house are-having a live tree-I prefer a Frazier Fir, nightly Advent Jesse Tree devotions, Zoo Lights,and reading the Cajun Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. Having the grandboys nearby is a blessing I hope not to ever take for granted. This year they came over just in time to help decorate the Christmas tree.

Greyson and Daniel came into town for a few days and while they were hear we enjoyed some good food and also visited the Memphis Zoo Lights.

Bill had a great idea to build a gingerbread house with the grandboys. He bought the kit and Dani, Aunt Mere and Aunt Kait helped construct it. Chapman and Luke seemed to really enjoy it and stayed with it until it was finished. Luke especially liked the part where he got to eat the candy.

The Christans and the Cavers celebrated together on Christmas Eve. Chapman and Luke had fun playing with their toys. Chapman especially enjoyed hearing Pops read the Cajun Night Before Christmas.

Christmas day was quiet around our house with the Caver's gone. We opened presents and then went over to the Kaplowitz house for a nice Christmas dinner.
